PERU – An elderly resident of Peru was unharmed after a ruse burglary occurred Saturday evening. According to Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei, around 5 pm in the 900 block of 25th St a resident realized items were missing from their home.
The resident stated that a white male in his 20’s, described as having a baby face and a baseball cap, claimed he was an employee of the water department and that he needed to inspect the plumbing. Once inside, the man ran the kitchen faucet and distracted the victim, while another person or persons entered the home and took an undisclosed amount of currency. No suspects have been located and the incident remains under investigation.
The victim was not harmed, but Chief Bernabei would like to remind residents that all city employees will have identification and when in doubt, do not let anyone into your home and call the police if you have any question as to the authenticity of anyone wanting into your home.
