MENDOTA – A firearm simulator training program at the Mendota Police Department is showing officers how they should react in dangerous situations. The program, which utilizes lasers and computers, can expose those taking the program to moments when they need to make life or death decisions and learn from them. The Illinois Public Risk Fund presented the training to all 19 members of the department over two days. A classroom portion discussed situations that may require deadly force followed by putting those practices into action. Sergeant John R. Myers said it was very valuable training, especially in a community like Mendota where opportunities to use a resource like this program don’t happen very often.
