Illinois Valley Veterans Memorial Bridge to Open

SPRING VALLEY – Illinois Valley Veterans Memorial Bridge is scheduled to open Monday in Spring Valley. The replacement Route 89 bridge over the Illinois River is going to be wider than the old bridge to allow for emergency vehicles, pedestrians and bike traffic. This summer demolition work is expected to begin on the old bridge that was built in 1943. Traffic will still be delayed, however, as the approaches to the new bridge are moved and lane closures will remain. The 41 million dollar project began in February of 2016.
