AMBOY – Amboy’s School District is levying a higher percentage for its property taxes. According to Superintendent Joshua Nichols, limitations with the tax cap law, or consumer price index will not allow over 5 percent increase. So why levy a nearly 6 percent hike? Nichols says if the school district does not levy above the five percent, they would be unable to capture funds the district is entitled to. He says because there is an increase in home’s equalizes assessed value, the district is requesting a higher percentage in order to ensure funds like education, operation and maintenance receive the full amount of levy dollars. Nichols says if he’s not maximizing the levy, he’s doing a disservice to the community.
