OTTAWA – Certain dog and puppy foods are being recalled due to toxic levels of Vitamin D. According to Dr. Dan Lendy of Chessie Lane Animal Hospital, fat soluble vitamins like A and D have a greater risk of harming your pets due to calcification build-up in the kidneys, ultimately leading to kidney failure. While Dr. Lendy has never treated a dog overdosing from ingredients in food, he says symptoms can include vomiting and hyper-salivation, or excessive abnormal drooling. These symptoms do not automatically mean your dog is experiencing an overdose, however it is best not to rule out other sicknesses, and get your dog treated.
