STREATOR – The Streator High School board announced the approval of bids for upcoming projects. In a board meeting Tuesday bids were approved for auditorium renovations, asbestos abatement and fire alarm replacements for the high school. Superintendent Matt Seaton says both the fire alarms and the asbestos abatement in the auditorium came under budget, however cuts had to be made to the auditorium renovation in order to keep it within budget. The board opted out of adding a staircase into the auditorium from the stage to storage area, a new dressing room and a corridor at the east main entrance. These cuts saved the district over $1 million. The total cost of auditorium renovations is just under $9 million. The asbestos abatement and fire alarm replacement is projected to cost over $600,000. Those renovations will begin in mid to late April.
