PERU – A suspect is in custody after a house fire in Peru yesterday. According to the Peru Police, 58-year-old Salvatore S. Fiumefreddo is charged with a 1st class felony of residential arson in a house fire that occurred Wednesday around 12 p.m. in the 1600 block of Schuyler Street. Police say while responding to the fire a Peru officer located a suspicious person just blocks from the scene. Fiumefreddo matched the description of the person who was allegedly seen leaving the area of the fire. The investigation is ongoing by Peru Detectives and a State Fire Marshal. Major fire damage was reported in a bedroom in the home. No injuries were reported as residents were not home at the time of the fire. Peru, Lasalle, Standard and Ladd fire departments responded to the scene. Fiumefreddo is being held at the LaSalle County Jail with bond yet to be set.
