MENDOTA – The estimated budget for Fiscal Year 2020 was approved for the elementary school district in Mendota Wednesday night as talks continue with a mediator to reach an agreement with the teachers to prevent a strike. Dr. Kristen School, Superintendent of District 289 shared the news that the deficit has been reduced slightly due to the reduced transportation costs shared with the High School due to the shrinking enrollment. She estimated with the revised budget a deficit of $580,000. The board also learned of roof repairs that president Sean Pappas indicated would need to be addressed at Blackstone and Northbrook schools. A crowd of nearly forty packed into the room quietly listening to the proceedings. It was announced that the negotiations with the teachers union would continue on Thursday night with an additional meeting scheduled for October 1st.
