SPRING VALLEY – Spring Valley’s City Council approved imposing a municipal tax on cannabis. At Monday’s city council meeting, an ordinance amending the city’s municipal code by enacting a cannabis retailers occupation tax was passed. Attorney Jim Andreoni says the state will be limited in awarding licenses for dispensaries so chances are there won’t be one in Spring Valley, but recommends imposing the 3% tax anyway. If the council and community decide to opt out of allowing recreational marijuana, Andreoni says he would repeal the ordinance. The city is to discuss zoning matters to potentially prepare for a dispensary in the future.
