STREATOR – Streator’s Elementary School District is no longer on the state’s financial watch list. According to Superintendent Lisa Parker, the Illinois State Board of Education voted last week to remove Streator Elementary School District #44 off of their list of schools they monitor financially each month. Park says the school board petitioned in August, asking for approval from the state to be removed from the list now that the district has had a balanced budget for the past two years. The steady finances is a combination of several years of fiscal responsibility, letting go of former buildings and staff cuts to be able to put $3 million back into their education fund. According to Illinois Report Card, the district is at 61% financial capacity to meet expectations.
