STREATOR – Streator’s council is debating on whether to enforce the city’s fence code or amend it to allow up to a 6 foot high privacy fence in limited situations. According to City Engineer Jeremy Palm, the current code doesn’t allow fencing over 4 feet, however he says a resident has a 6 foot fence installed. Rather than starting a code enforcement issue, Palm suggested working with the community by amending the ordinance, as others are already requesting a taller privacy fence. The ordinance would allow for taller fencing in certain situations, like for corner lot properties. The city agreed to place an ordinance up for approval at their November meeting.
