STREATOR – Waste Management Services is proposing a rate increase in the city of Streator. Due to the motor fuel tax increase and China’s disruption of the export market for recyclables, the waste service says they plan to increase fees. According to a letter by Waste Management, the proposal is pursuant to agreements with the city, allowing increases in governmental taxes, fees or increased costs resulting from charges in local, state or federal laws. On Tuesday during a city of a whole meeting, council members agreed to table the issue until hearing from the Municipal Market Manager for Waste Management, and also seek legal advice in the meantime.
