SPRINGFIELD — A wetlands refuge will receive over $18,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for restoration. The Putnam County project will restore high quality lands across 42 acres of Violet Meadow area at the Dixon Waterfowl Refuge.The project includes removing invasive species, planting native plant plugs, conducting prescribed burns to restore mesic prairie and disconnecting tile drainage lines. Over $18,000 of state Habitat funds were awarded, with the Dixon Waterfowl Refuge providing just over $92,000 in matching funds.
