STREATOR – First round inspections were completed for Streator’s new rental inspection program. 75 permits ranging from six months to three years until a next inspection were issued to property owners. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says only four owners were issued six-month permits due to various repairs deemed as urgent, otherwise owners were largely compliant with inspections.
Palm says 46 owners of 229 have not responded to notices in the first round, so the city is proceeding with Attorney Cheryl Churney to get 14 owners into court, enforcing administrative search warrants. Second round notices will be issued to second round property owners to give them a chance to respond before issuing those warrants.
