LELAND – The administration of the Leland school district sent a letter home to parents informing them of an unfortunate situation where younger students were shown how to open prescription pill bottles. In a letter addressing the incident on Friday, they say that a junior high student engaged students in kindergarten and first grade to gather data for a science fair project on how fast they could open the containers. At some point they say the students were also shown how to do so. This research was done without prior permission from the students involved. The administration says a social worker will go into the classes where this occurred and reinforce lessons on medication safety.
