LELAND – A teacher with Leland school has been selected to receive an honor for his contributions in the classroom. History teacher Jim Spring was chosen as the Illinois state winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Teacher of American History award. He will get the award at an event in April during the DAR convention, and be nominated to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for consideration. Spring has been a history and social sciences teacher in Leland since 2001, and was responsible for creating a local history elective for students to take. He was told of the award Tuesday during an assembly.
