Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for February 25th:
Dr. Kwane Stewart has been working as a veterinarian in California for 20 years, but it wasn’t until relatively recently he took his service on the road in a unique, impacting way.
Stewart now wanders the coast of California, treating pets belonging to homeless people, and not asking for a dime in return. He was motivated after working closely with homeless people, offering them medical care in Modesto.
“About 25% of our homeless population own a pet, and I knew that if I set up a table at a soup kitchen I could help a small group of animals,” Stewart said. “So that’s what I did.”
He allowed people with pets to come up for a free exam/vaccination, and after treating 25 pets in a single day, he realized this was a need that had to be addressed. He’s launched a GoFundMe page in order to fund the necessary medicine, since he’s paying for the treatment out of his own pocket.
Stories about animals always tug at the heartstrings, but this one has multiple facets: there’s compassion for both people and their pets, and what Dr. Stewart is doing is a noble, recurring act of kindness.
