NJ police officers delivering groceries to elderly residents


Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for March 19th:
Senior citizens face potentially fatal consequences if they were to contract the Coronavirus, which is why police officers in New Jersey are taking extra steps to assure their safety.
The Sayreville Police Department has taken it upon themselves to deliver groceries to elderly residents during this time when people are implored to stay indoors. Officers have been working closely with local food banks in order to provide them with the supplies they need.
“It’s scary for them to even come out of the house,” Lieutenant James Novak said. “We saw the issue and we worked with some local food pantries and just said ‘hey, how can we help’?”
As unfortunate and unnerving of a time this is for all of us, it’s encouraging to see a collective rise amongst people young and old, just looking for opportunities to extend a hand in any way they can.
