Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for May 29th:
Walter Willard, 91, and Jean Willard, 89, a married couple of 70 years, were finally able to reunite amidst the pandemic. Jean had been living in a nursing home, and while Walter would visit her every single day, he was unable to due to local restrictions.
Walter’s mood and even health had been declining in the weeks he couldn’t see his wife. He fell, which caused a brain bleed and led to subsequent surgery and rehab. Their daughters knew they had to find a way to get him back to see his wife.
Wendy, one of their children, wrote to the nursing home and begged that they see one another.
“I told him what we were afraid of, we’re afraid we’re going to lose one of them and they’re never going to have seen each other again, and I asked ‘is there anything you can do? We’re willing to take the risk, my dad is willing to take the risk.'” Wendy said. “He immediately called me and said absolutely we want to do this for you!”
Last Thursday, the couple reunited. And the end result was nothing short of beautiful.
“Oh honey I’m so happy to see you!” Jean said to Walter as they held hands, hugged and kissed.
