Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for June 18th:
A middle school librarian in Virginia had an intuitive idea to ensure kids can still rent and read books during a time when libraries across the world are closed due to the pandemic.
Kelly Passek was inspired when she successfully received a package via drone. She wondered if it would be possible to deliver books to students the same way.
“Montgomery County Public Schools will be the first public school system in the world to use Wing to deliver library books to our students,” Passek said. “We are thrilled for this opportunity to have a really unique way to deliver resources to our students and do it practically on demand.”
Passek works with a company known as Wing and packs the books in secure boxes to be delivered. Students can use the internet to check out the books they want while Passek safely secures the books and prepares them to ship.
Times like these inspire creativity and technological solutions. Look at how many of us had never done a video-call or meeting prior to March. It’s a world now predicated on adapting and finding solutions.
Now, thanks to some ingenuity, students in Montgomery County can choose from the library’s 150,000+ titles, and have their books delivered to their front yard.
