Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for June 25th:
Michelle Brenner was furloughed from her job at a menswear store in Gig Harbor, Washington in lieu of the pandemic. She decided to make herself an enormous pan of lasagna one day and have it all to herself. Enjoying it so much, she remarked on Facebook about how store-bought lasagna just cannot compare to homemade.
She followed up with an offer: “If any of you want some fresh homemade, no calorie counting lasagna, please let me know and I will gladly prepare it.”
Brenner put aside her $1,200 stimulus check to buy ingredients, and the requests began to come in en masse. First from a retired neighbor, then an out-of-work friend. Before-long, strangers were turning up for lasagna.
Eight hours a day, seven days a week, with more than 1,000 pans having gone in the oven, Brenner has helped feed her community: everyone from healthcare professionals, first responders, and those out of work have gotten a slice of lasagna.
“This is nothing less than a blessing, miracle and true journey,” she wrote in an update. “My goal which has now changed is to raise a total of $20,000 which will provide over 1,000 made fresh daily, homemade lasagna meals to the families of this great community and the essential workers who are leading our community to a better place.”
