Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for July 2nd:
A sign sits in front of Ben Ramirez’s kitchen window boasts offering free coffee to people in his neighborhood.
And that’s exactly what Ramirez has been delivering to his San Francisco community. He converted his kitchen into a coffeeshop and even his kitchen window to a drive-thru, where people can safely grab a cup of coffee on their daily commute.
“Even if they don’t get a cup of coffee, they can stop at the window and chat,” Ramirez told CNN. “We have a lot of people in the neighborhood who either are nurses, doctors or postal workers. They’re out there on the front lines risking their lives every day. They deserve something and they’re always happy to see us in the morning.”
It’s a lovely act of hospitality, of course, but it’s also a way to ensure some semblance of community and connection during a time where we must keep our distance. On average, Ramirez makes about 10-15 cups a day and serves from 8 a.m. until noon.
