MENDOTA – A house was filled with smoke in Mendota from a basement fire Tuesday. Around 5 AM Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments were called to the 1000 block of 13th Ave for smoke in a residence. Mendota Police had arrived on the scene first and found the family outside the home. Earlville, Peru and LaSalle Fire Departments also were called to assist in battling the blaze. According to Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser there was plenty of smoke damage in the home and fire damage in the basement and one bedroom on the first floor. The family has been in contact with the Red Cross. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
