North Carolina Zoo announces birth of “cute but ferocious” little sand kitten


Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for September 9th:
The North Carolina Zoo made waves on social media this week when they announced that they welcomed a baby sand cat, a small wild cat living in sandy and stony deserts.
Sand cats’ looks can be deceiving. They weigh from four to eight pounds and measure, on average, 20 inches long, yet they’re fearless hunters that kill venomous snakes in the desert.
Sand cats also have exceptional hearing, which they use to detect animals under the sand, and coupled with their excellent digging skills, they can capture and kill prey with ease. Nonetheless, they’re absolutely adorable and likely much easier to appreciate from a distance.
