OGLESBY – Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center will be offering a Cannabis Dispensary Agent/Patient Care Specialist program in two six-week sessions on main campus. The program prepares individuals for both medical and recreational cannabis markets and can be carried over to other parts of the industry. Students will learn to speak and educate others confidently about cannabis and examine detailed information on the cannabis plant and how it can be used medicinally. It also provides an overview of Illinois State laws regarding Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulations (IDFPR) and how they can be implemented within a dispensary or retail setting. The course prepares students for state licensure.
The classes will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 10 through March 17. The second class is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, March 31 through May 5. Joseph Naszke, course instructor, worked closely with the college to develop the program. Those looking to work within the cannabis market must be 21 or older, and must pass a criminal background check.
