Officers chop firewood for elderly woman struggling to heat her home

Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for January 27th:
Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police went above the call of duty to help an elderly resident, who was resorting to burning old furniture as a source for heat during the treacherous winter months.
The police were initially called to help the woman’s husband in distress, but another sight they saw was particularly concerning.
“The officer interrupted the elderly woman as she was in the process of breaking up household furniture to burn, in the home’s wood stove, for heat,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP’s Southeast District.
“The officer immediately rounded up the troops, who travelled into the backcountry to chop wood, which they sorted, split, delivered and stacked for the local elder.”
O’Donaghey added that he hopes this story will prompt others to check on their neighbors and extend a helping hand if need be.
