SPRINGFIELD – Individual income tax returns for 2020 will begin to be accepted on Friday by the state and by the Internal Revenue Service. Officials say that if a taxpayer electronically files an error-free return, they should receive a direct deposit refund in four to six weeks. The Illinois Department of Revenue reported that 87% of tax returns were filed electronically last year with 63% of those persons receiving refunds. The 2020 tax filing deadline is Thursday, April 15. The state offers free filing of IL-1040 using MyTax Illinois, which can be found at tax.illinois.gov
