SPRINGFIELD – Grain handling and storage accidents injure hundreds across the midwest and have killed dozens every year, but the Illinois Department of Labor wants to try to prevent those tragedies with a week devoted to farm safety. Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week begins today with online classes and resources to help prevent loss of life and injuries. According to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration , a worker standing on moving grain can be trapped within just five seconds and completely covered in grain in less than half a minute.
Each day of Stand Up 4 Grain Safety week will focus on a different topic. You can register for the free daily training sessions, which being at 10 a.m. each day at the website StandUp4GrainSafety.org
