PERU – The Slough Road Bridge that leads to the boat launch on the south side of the Illinois River in Peru has been closed. According to officials, this was due to an unsatisfactory inspection by the City’s consulting structural engineer. The required report was forwarded to IDOT and IDOT has notified the city they cannot reopen the bridge until they have completed their inspection and provided the city with direction. The Illinois Department of Transportation has jurisdiction over the bridge and it will remain closed until they have completed their inspection and report. According to signage on the bridge, it showed a prior inspection of 1997. Workers on Tuesday welded a steel gate to the bridge to restrict access.
