SPRING VALLEY – An oil slick has closed the boat ramp in Spring Valley, and authorities are trying to contain the spill before it spreads. Around 7 AM Saturday the Illinois State Police reported an oil slick in the small harbor of Bartos Boat Landing. According to Spring Valley Fire Chief Todd Bogatitus, they called in additional Haz-mat resources and deployed booms on the river to control the spill. Two area MABAS divisions were called to the scene to assist, and the source of the spill has not been located, but the incident is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police. The Bureau County Emergency Management Agency stated in a release online that the ramps may be closed for some time to allow the pads and booms to soak up the contamination.
