OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Community College monthly board meeting was extended by over an hour as members of the community spoke out about questions that were on an exam given to some students this past spring. A number of area residents shared how they felt questions were politically biased, and proposed a community-based review process of program curriculum. IVCC President Jerry Corcoran noted the board’s Academic Freedom policy allowing faculty “the freedom of research in their discipline” and “freedom in the classroom to discuss their subject. In other business discussed at the meeting, the IVCC President noted that the school will be resuming all student services due to the lifting of many COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, however, those not fully vaccinated are still expected to wear masks and practice social distancing. He noted they are planning on 74% of all classes returning to traditional, in person format.
