PERU – Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says he’s pleased with the city council’s approval of his employment agreement to transition to Lieutenant. At the Peru City Council meeting Alderman voted 7-1 to concur with Mayor Ken Kolowski’s appointment to name Deputy Chief Bob Pyszka as Chief of Police and Bernabei Lieutenant of administrative services, effective September 1st.
Bernabei says he couldn’t imagine a better time to leave the position, as he previously discussed with former Mayor Scott Harl his desire to transition into an administrative role.
Alderman Mike Sapienza voted nay to the appointment and says that Mayor Kolowski owes an explanation to citizens.
Mayor Kolowski says the decision is not performance based but believes the city of ready for change.
