MENDOTA — The Mendota Museum and Historical Society posthumously honored hometown hero Stan Gehler Saturday during the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival.
Ken Gehler, Stan’s older brother spoke about not only his brother’s service but his achievements he earned during his time in the military.
In 1991 President George H.W. Bush recognized Mendota native Stan Gehler and his team of civilian employees of the United States Army for identifying ways to save the military millions of dollars on aircraft contracts. Gehler also served as an artillery officer during the Vietnam War.
“I want to tell people of Mendota that we have a hero,” said Ken Gehler about his brother.
