PERU – The Peru Police Department is having their annual car seat safety check on Saturday at Hyvee. Car seat technicians will work directly with families to assist in installing and checking their car seats. Lead organizer and patrolman Mark Creedi says locally, there’s about an 80% rate of misuse of car seats and witnesses many common mistakes.
According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 96% of parents believe their child safety seats are installed correctly, but nationwide, 80% of child restraints show misuse that can interfere with the safety of the child. The event will be located on the south side of the Hyvee parking lot.
