MAZON – A suspect is in custody after a Grundy County deputy was shot during a traffic stop. The incident occurred on IL Route 47 near Mazon around 5 PM Thursday. Grundy County officials were asking all residents to stay inside, lock their doors, and report any suspicious activity.
Authorities say the deputy initiated a traffic stop on IL Route 47 at DuPont Rd, but the vehicle allegedly fled from the scene. The vehicle was reportedly involved in two separate motor vehicle crashes prior to coming to a stop near the railroad crossing at Grand Ridge Rd. in Mazon. The offender was said to have fled on foot. During the foot pursuit the suspect allegedly fired multiple gun shots, striking the deputy multiple times. They are currently under medical care in stable condition.
The suspect was taken into custody, and further information about the arrest and possible charges are expected to be released tomorrow.
