Statewide Unemployment Rate Down, Payroll Jobs Up in December

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced last week that the unemployment rate fell to just 5.3 percent, while adding over 22,000 jobs in December. The state’s unemployment rate was higher than the national unemployment rate reported for December, which was 3.9 percent.
