CHICAGO – Gas price averages locally have spiked in the last 24 hours according to the American Automobile Association. Since Thursday afternoon, the gas price average for Putnam County spiked by 20 cents now $4.00 per gallon. Bureau County prices increased by 10 cents now nearly $4.00 a gallon as well, and LaSalle County up 8 cents, averaging 4.08 cents per gallon. Statewide, Illinois is experiencing a significant increase in prices, averaging 30 cents more per gallon compared to prices two weeks ago. The AAA says increasing oil prices continue to play a leading role in pushing prices higher. Pump prices will likely continue to rise as crude prices continue to climb.
