SPRINGFIELD – Illinois legislators are moving forward on a bill that could provide a tax credit to volunteer fire fighters and EMS personnel across the state. The proposal seeks to provide a $500 state income tax credit to those who earn less than $10,000 in stipends for their service to their community. The bill has passed the Illinois Senate unanimously, but now is waiting on action from the Illinois House. The legislation is modeled on a similar bill that was passed in the state of New York.
