STREATOR – Streator Township High School’s board gave its blessing to a woodworking teacher to build a shelter at Marilla Park. This week Dave Taylor presented his scale model of the 20 x 40 timber frame pavilion, the same one he presented to the Streator City Council last week. According to Taylor, the city has agreed to provide the tools necessary for the build, and says, “knock on wood, were going to replace all the shelters.” The project that will begin in the spring of 2023, would be 100% student-based. Taylor’s carefully picked a special group of 20 students fit for the role to use skill saws, mallets, drills, and other heavy construction equipment. He says come spring, the public is highly encouraged to watch the barn-raising style build go up.
