OTTAWA – Ottawa’s mayor hopes to have the Illinois and Michigan Canal re-watered by the summertime. Before that’s possible Mayor Dan Aussem listed over a number of issues at the canal needing to be addressed like getting liner installation, drainage, and other kinks at a city council meeting Tuesday night. Aussem says the city’s contractor will complete what’s needed for an additional charge of $280,000. Officials are expected to meet next week to figure out a plan of action. The Ottawa I & M Canal was drained last summer due to algae bloom and other bacteria growth.
