OTTAWA – This week of September is being recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week. The Illinois Department of Agriculture is reminding all farm workers to stay safe, especially during the upcoming harvest season. On Monday, the department is highlighting tractor and rural roadway safety. Motorists should be prepared to start seeing tractors and other heavy, slow-moving machinery in the roadways. The two biggest causes of roadway accidents is when farming machinery vehicles are taking a left turn, or when a vehicle rear ends one after failing to reduce speed. Ag equipment moves slower, and could turn at any time. During these next couple of months, it is important for motorists to stay alert and remember to share the road.
