LASALLE – The cleanup will be getting underway at Carus Chemical in LaSalle after the large fire yesterday that brought hazardous materials teams from across the state to the city to battle the blaze. LaSalle Mayor Jeff Grove said that the fire was put out yesterday around 6 PM. Runoff from the water used to fight the fire was contained on site, according to Carus, in storage tanks designed for such emergencies, however, those tanks are now currently full. According to Grove, it is safe to now walk your dog and be outside, as officials continue to monitor the air quality in the area. A hotline has been provided by Carus Chemical for any questions and concerns at (815)224-6662.
