A woman in Vancouver recently sued the company she had been terminated from for not paying her final wages of $5,000. She was working from home at the time of termination and the company countersued her for time theft. Her company laptop had software called “TimeCamp” installed that could differentiate between work tasks and personal tasks such as logging into social media. She claimed that she was printing work out and working on it by hand, not on her computer. Her company was able to see her print queue and found that she was not doing that either. She lost the countersuit and has 30 days to repay her former employer.
