MENDOTA – No injuries were reported after a fire heavily damaged a two-unit house in Mendota Sunday night. Around 5:15 PM authorities say they took multiple 911 calls about the fire in the 800 block of 5th Ave. When firefighters arrived, flames were rising through both levels of the rear of the building. A box alarm was sounded and multiple area departments responded to the scene, including the Troy Grove, Earlville, Peru, LaSalle, Utica and Sublette Fire Departments. Sublette and Oglesby Ambulance also were on hand. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the four occupants of the structure, all who escaped unharmed. Crews were on the scene roughly 3 and a half hours, and according to Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
