LaSalle councilmen vote to conduct more chemical tests for residents

LASALLE – More testing is planned with the City of Lasalle’s third party environmentalist on homes affected by the Carus chemical fire. A straw vote was unanimously approved for Brownfield Environmental Engineering to conduct interior and exterior tests on six properties. The test will include the insides of homes and a panel test on heavy metals after Porter Avenue resident Jaimie Hicks presented the results of tests taken on several home filters. Tests conducted by the Sierra Club Environmental Organization show barium, copper, lead and magnesium, however environmentalists cannot determine how high the exposure was on an individual basis. Hicks says the vote to conduct testing in homes is a win for the entire fourth ward.
