SPRINGFIELD – Hunters in Illinois harvested nearly 160,000 deer during the 2022-23 archery and firearm season. That number is up by over 12,000 from the previous season. Archery hunters bagged just under 70,000 deer this last season, and traditional firearm hunters harvested nearly 6,000 more deer this year over last. Sixteen northern Illinois counties were also open to a special Chronic Wasting Disease season, which was to assist in slowing the spread of chronic wasting disease in Illinois. During the 2022-2023 deer seasons, hunters took 45.04% females and 54.96% males.
