MORRIS – Last week State Senators Sue Rezin and Tom Bennett hosted the annual Illinois Valley Flood Resiliency Alliance meeting. The event featured presentations from FEMA, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, The Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Weather Service. The organization meets each year to discuss ongoing efforts and new and better ways of implementing flood prevention and response measures along the Illinois River.
“Nearly a decade ago, our region had one of the most devastating floods it has ever seen. Every community received damage except for the City of Ottawa, which just so happens to sit at the confluence of two rivers,” said Sen. Rezin. “The fact that this city, who should’ve seen major damage, was able to prevent damage by committing to serious flood preventive measures opened my eyes to the importance of flood prevention and response efforts. ”
