OTTAWA – The incumbent for mayor of Ottawa failed to secure enough votes to retain his seat in the consolidated election last night. Dan Aussem will make way for new mayor Robert Hasty. The outgoing mayor came up over 500 votes short in an election that had less than a 25% turnout in LaSalle County. Leonard Newell, the third man on the ballot for the job only secured around 5% of the vote in the city. Results won’t be certified across the state until two weeks after Tuesday.
