A software engineer in Seattle created a project he dubbed the “Office Space Project” and tried to replicate the theft scheme from the movie. He was skimming money from shipping costs for his employer. He was able to $260,000 in from the shipping costs, as well as $41,000 in merchandise. Totaling a little over $300,000, which is how much was stolen i n the movie.
He was charged with two counts of theft in the first degree and one count of identity theft in the first degree.
