SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced $21,046,025 in grants to six communities across the state through Illinois EPA’s Unsewered Communities Construction Grant Program, including a large contribution for the village of Rutland. Made possible through the Rebuild Illinois plan, these grants will allow underserved communities to construct dependable wastewater collection and/or treatment systems. The Village of Rutland, a completely unsewered community that relies on septic tanks, will be gaining a new collection system and treatment plant. The $5 million project will connect 143 customers to the plant and lagoon. The new sanitary sewer collection system will include two lift stations with stand-by power generators.
“No community should be forced to function without a high quality water infrastructure system,” said Governor JB Pritzker.
